Who loves to get sweaty? Me! There is something about getting super sweaty during a work out that makes you feel great. I have always loved to run. Something about it just makes me feel amazing. It is intense, it gets your blood pumping, it gets those endorphins flowing and you sweat A LOT! Now I can’t stand to sweat when I am dressed up for a night out, but if I’m working out I want to sweat… A LOT. Running has always been my go to exercise to balance me, to keep me in shape, and to pick me up when I am feeling down.
One day back in 2006 someone started talking to me about hot yoga. I was hesitant to try because I am hot natured, and can not stand to sweat or even feel hot indoors. I don’t like heaters or any kind or fake heat so why would I like hot yoga. Well, my friend convinced me to give it a try, and I loved it. It was a hot power vinyasa flow and oh my it was amazing. I had finally found something that gave me that same feeling I get when I am done with a run. I continued to go and continued to fall even more in love with it. I even made the statement that if I could do hot yoga all the time I would not feel the need to run!!
Then life happened, I got pregnant, quit my job to stay home with my little ones and was no where near any yoga studio. I would do some yoga at home but it just was not the same so I was back to running. I would run with my babies on country roads and of course was happy with that but still missed the hot yoga.
We ended up moving from the country outside of Austin to Galveston Island. Now, I was by yoga studios, but not a hot one. Maybe that was a good thing because I started going to the other yoga studios and fell in love with all types of yoga. Yoga has a great community of people that I enjoy being around and I gained a deeper spiritual relationship with it during this time but hot yoga was in the back of my mind.
I would brainstorm how I could open up a studio, but I was lacking in experience, certifications and financial backing. I figured one day I would be close to hot yoga again weather it was me generating something, us moving or someone else opening one.
So, life continues, I continued to run and do yoga when I could and then one night while out at The Galveston Art Walk with my honey and some friends we saw a sign for a hot yoga studio. Oh my I was beyond excited.
After a couple months of waiting they finally opened up and I am now close to hot yoga again and am going as much as I can. I am still running some because I love running on the beach, but my main exercise jam will be hot yoga. Thank you Island Salt Air for opening your doors in Galveston Texas. This is one happy Island Girl!
I happened to be at the studio one day while they were having pictures done for their website and ended up in a few of them. Now I have some yoga pictures of me.
If you have not tried hot yoga before I highly recommend it. Yoga is great for your body and it is something that you can make your own. You can either modify moves or push yourself to intensify the practice. Weather you go do yoga, run, walk etc., get out and get sweaty doing what you enjoy. Move that body!
Tell me, what do you like to do for exercise? Walk? Run? Swim? Yoga? Surf? Skate?
I hope you have a lovely day!
