It is almost impossible to get too much sugar from eating whole, fresh fruit.
~Dr. Douglas N. Graham
Hey lovelies! I hope you are having a fantastic week! Today I wanted to talk about how fruit is the perfect food for out body. I hate it when I hear someone say that fruit does the same thing in your body as processed sugars….. REALLY! So you think that this beautiful thing provided to us by Our Creator is harmful to us if you eat too much? Well, let me tell you it is not and here is why!
Fruit is a WHOLE food that is full of vitamins, minerals, fibre, carbohydrates, fats AND protein. Dr. Douglas Graham states in his book The 80/10/10 Diet that “Fruits are replete with the nutrients our bodies require- in the proportions that we need them.” It is perfect for our body and we should eat it in ABUNDANCE! When eaten in abundance fruit gives you energy, where processed sugar, if eaten in abundance can put you in a food coma.
Fruit is a clean burning fuel to our bodies, and does not take much energy to digest it therefore leaving you with more energy. Why is this? Well, when fruit is consumed in its ripened state it accommodatingly converts the carbohydrate components into glucose and fructose “SIMPLE SUGARS” we can use without further digestion. I don’t even drink coffee on a daily basis, and I have energy all day. I even have an abundance of energy on those days when I did not get much sleep the night before due to Mommy Duties! The only time I find myself lacking in energy is when I have not eaten enough fruit for the day.
With sweet fast buds at the tip of our tongue we are sweet seekers by nature! We are designed to eat sweet fruits. I have always loved sweets, as do the majority of people in this world, and when I switched to a fruit based diet my “Sweet Tooth” went away. I no longer crave bad sweets UNLESS I do not eat enough fruit in the day. Over the winter time when I eat less fruit and more starches I notice myself craving chocolate more. Now that I am back to eating an abundance of fruit my chocolate craving has gone pretty much away. If I crave it at all I am able to make my FAVORITE smoothie and all is good.
Is FRUIT sugar bad for you? No, not if you eat a diet low in fat. When you eat a diet low in fat the fibre in the fruit allow sugars to be obsorbed at a healthy rate. It passes easily into and out of the blood stream. People have reversed Type 2 Diabetes, and heart disease as well as many other chronic diseases on a plant based diet high in fruit consumption and low in fat.
So to sum it up here are the health benefits of eating fruit!
- It lowers risk of chronic disease
- Helps keep you Hydrated
- Is fast to digeste
- Helps with elimination
- Satisfies cravings for sweet foods
- Helps lose weight
Fruit is the best “FAST FOOD”. Eat it in abundance. If a diet plan has you limiting the amount of fruit you can have in a day I would highly suggest that you reconsider and look into another diet/lifestyle choice.

Have a wonderful day!
